Black Sheep

Black Sheep gathers a cluster of dahlias in peach, blush, and cream inside a shattered bell jar, its glass split open and the flowers pushing through the break. Among the soft pastels, a single deep burgundy bloom sits at the center of the arrangement, the black sheep of the bunch.

Pierced brass filigree trays lie scattered at the base, one toppled, and the wooden handle of a hammer rests just at the edge of the composition. Painted in the warm pinks and antique golds that run through the 'Beneath the Bell Jar' series, the piece asks what it means to be the one that does not match, and suggests that difference is often what breaks the glass.
